When your back starts acting up, do you know why it’s doing that? For a majority of people, the discomfort is a result of bad habits. There are things we do every day that hurt our backs, and we are oblivious. That is why we are taking the time to share common bad habits that end up making backs sore. In our last blog, we discussed working at a desk and ignoring your body. Today, we have to more!
You have an old mattress
If you can’t remember the last time you replaced your mattress, it’s time to get a new one. In a best-case scenario, a good mattress needs to be replaced every 10 years. However, if you have trouble sleeping or your back hurts, you should replace your mattress every five to seven years. You spend a large fraction of your life in bed, and making sure your mattress can do its job will allow your body to get the supported sleep it needs so badly.
You hold a grudge
If you tend to hold on to grudges, you are setting yourself up for all kinds of discomfort – your back included. Studies have shown that those who forgive are able to live healthier lives. They experience less muscle tension, because emotions are directly connected to our physical bodies. We know that everyone has a different story, and moving on can be hard. The key is to work through it and do what needs to be done to get to the other side.
If either of these describes you, we encourage you to make gradual changes to your routine and contact us for world-class pain management in New Jersey!
