We just finished three blogs on what you can eat to reduce the painful inflammation that causes arthritis. However, we would be remiss not to address the other side of the equation: what you should not eat. It doesn’t matter if you are eating a bunch of anti-inflammatory foods if you are also eating plenty inflammatory foods as well. We have some great suggestions for you today!
Reduce your consumption of AGEs
AGE stands for advanced glycation end product. It is a toxin that damages the proteins in your body. In order to defend itself, your body uses cytokines to break down the AGEs. Unfortunately, cytokines are inflammatory messengers, and depending on where the battle between the AGEs and cytokines occurs in your body, they can give you arthritis or other inflammation.
AGEs are toxins that appear when you consume heated, frilled, fried, or pasteurized foods. We recommend that you reduce your consumption of these foods. You don’t have to stop eating them altogether – just reduce them.
Refined Carbs and Sugars
If your diet has high amounts of sugar, your body will again find itself dealing with AGEs, cytokines, and inflammation. This means that you can reduce your arthritis pain by cutting out sodas, processed foods, and baked goods with white flour.
