Vacationing With Chronic Pain – Part 3
How long has it been since your last vacation? When you suffer from chronic pain, vacations can seem almost impossible. It just seems simpler to stay home where you know you have support. However, that’s no way to live. There are things you can do to make a vacation more than doable – you can make it wonderful. Read on!
Don’t hesitate to ask for what you need
- Hotels are usually inevitable when traveling, and you can do a lot to make your experience better. Make reservations over the phone rather than online, and call the actual hotel rather than the 800 number. Talking to the staff of your chosen hotel will give you the opportunity to ask for a room near the elevator or on the main floor. This will minimize the distance you have to walk. You can also ask for wheelchair-accessible accommodations and other needs, like grab bars in the shower.
Make plans you can handle
- This has got to be one of the most difficult steps for many people! They don’t want to limit themselves. Traveling with others can make creating a realistic itinerary even more difficult. There are some key things you can do to make your vacation manageable. First of all, don’t schedule up the day you arrive. Just reaching your destination can be exhausting. Next, deliberately integrate rest times into your schedule. It can be a nap or an hour to sit with a delicious drink and rest up. It will make all the difference!
