Foods to Avoid If You Have Arthritis – Part 2

This content was medically reviewed by Baher S. Yanni, MD, on March 28th, 2016.

When you have arthritis, it can seem like nothing will work to relieve the pain. We understand. At the Spine INA, we are experienced with arthritis pain. We always treat each of our patients with compassion and respect, because we know what you are going through. Part of what we do is empower you to make good choices for yourself, including what to eat! A while back, we took the time to list foods that can pacify arthritis and make you feel better. In the most recent blogs, we are pointing out foods to avoid – foods that aggravate arthritis.

Salt

Many of our foods today are far too salty. Because salt is so good for preserving foods, it is used to prolong foods’ shelf lives. Many people experience joint inflammation due to excess salt consumption. We recommend that you check the labels of the foods you buy to ensure they don’t have many additives and preservatives. Prepared meals should be avoided, because even through they’re convenient, they are usually high in sodium.

Food that has been fried or processed

If you eat a lot of frozen, fried, or processed foods, they are not helping your arthritis. People who have cut back on these types of food and replaced them with fruits and vegetables have found that they feel better.

These recommendations will be most effective when you work with a world-class surgeon or doctor from the Spine Institute in Windsor. Contact us today and set up an appointment – we can’t wait to meet you!
